I am outdoors photographing again – yes with the same umbrella! And no, this is not the same flower that I photographed earlier last week – this one is in my neighbors front yard!
I actually went out to photograph reflections on the road – it didn’t work very well – not like I had pictured in my minds eye. But for this image I liked the purple against the green, and the way the rain was weighting down the petals of the flowers.

‘Lots of Pots’ – that is what I am calling this image – or should it be ‘Celebrate Summer’?
This house is located on Anacapa Street in downtown Santa Barbara. The pots of flowers caught my attention, though I don’t think this image does them justice. It just makes me think of having a mini garden in each pot, on each step.
And what better way to celebrate summer, than with lots of pots of colorful flowers?

Today’s image comes from Art from Scrap on the corner of Garden and Cota Streets in downtown Santa Barbara. I seem to be on Cota Street a lot, don’t I? But Cota Street is home to Specialty Color Services and Calumet Photographic, Inc. They are both my second homes.
Art From Scrap’s Reuse store keeps thousands of pounds of clean, reusable materials from ending up in the Santa Barbara County landfill each year. You can find all kinds of treasures donated by local businesses and individuals at this store at a very very reduced price. They even have an education program that teaches young children the principles of recycling and pollution prevention.
Check it out the next time you need some crazy zany item for that special photo shoot!
Here they have displayed lots of different items on the exterior of their building and fence. I liked the mix of shapes and lines.

Sometimes I get carried away with fences and fence posts! This one just seemed to call out my name.
I liked the way the dead vines were tightly wrapped around the post itself and the new growth was poking its way over and through the bottom rail. H m m m, that’s not poison oak, is it ! ! ! ? ? ?

We all have limits in our life – sometimes I think this is mine! But my mind and determination are going at least 60mph! Full Speed Ahead at all times and until the cows come home . . .
Yes, it’s raining again – you should have seen me under the umbrella trying to hold it in place so my camera wouldn’t get wet! Now that would have been an image ! ! !
There really is no rhyme or reason for this particular image – it was bright and yellow and it was just recently installed in our neighborhood. Because of the dreariness of the rainy day, it caught my attention. And you get to share in my attention diversions!

June 2nd, 2009 | Category: Events Today I registered for a workshop with Calumet Photographic, Inc. (the Santa Barbara location). The event, titled Fire In Your Eyes, seems to be a very interesting workshop. It promises fire jugglers, fire performers, dancers and costumed characters/models.
What really drew me to this workshop, is photographing in low light, using long exposures and filming at night. Though the fire will be intense light, the performers will not – and getting them to be stopped in action is the function of the flash used, as well as it’s power.
This should prove to be a very interesting event. I am looking forward to it and will keep you posted as to it’s outcome.

The sun actually came out for a while this afternoon! Sure am glad I had my camera with me, albeit my back up camera, but it was a camera nonetheless! I was downtown on Cota Street and looked across the street to find the sun playing with shadows on this building. This building though, is a story for another day . . .
One might think the shadows are caused from flags hanging down from an awning or something of that nature, but not the case. Here they are caused from the rounded Spanish style roofing tiles.

I have decided to post a photo a day. This is a project I have been meaning to start for a long time – ever since I was in class with Chris Orwig for the first time . . . WOW that was way back in 2006! Can’t believe it has been that long.
Of course, this means that I need to have subjects to shoot. I won’t make any guarantees on the longevity of this project, nor will I make any guarantees on content. So bear with me and enjoy.
At the end of each month, I will gather all of the photos and place them into an album posted on the Photo a Day page.

Just one last comment . . . Ralph Clevenger would fire me on the spot for not having the proper name of this flower in the caption! And for the life of me, I don’t know it – pretty sad since they are all over the place – in abundance! I think this means I may be too lazy to look it up.
But I also think it isn’t about the name of the flower, it is about the rain, the water droplets and the colors . . . well, you get the picture (every pun intended!).
September 18th, 2008 | Category: Everyday Life This is where it all begins!
I never thought I would be among those who call themselves ‘bloggers’, but technology has a way of keeping one on their toes, or perhaps even slapping one upside the head saying, “WOW! I coulda had a V8!” Where have I been? Blogging is no foreign language and it has been with most of the world for 4 years now(or more! I saw one blog today that has archives back to 1998!), so I ask, what has taken me so long to jump on board?
This space is for visual effects only.
